The speakers at the basketball stadium in Houston blared What I Like About You by The Romantics, but it didn't seem like the pair on the screen were feeling the lovey-dovey vibe.
When the two noticed they had been targeted by the kiss cam, they both instantly burst out in laughter.
When the kiss cam panned to them, the woman in the pair seemed embarrassed as she and her male counterpart leaned in toward each other, but at the last second she turned her face and he planted a kiss on her cheek.
The video was shared by New York native Rob Perez, 29, who hosts a social media basketball show called Buckets for Fox Sports's Cycle platform, and it went viral.
A pair of friends shared an awkward smooch that was caught on video during the Houston Rockets - San Antonio Spurs NBA playoff game on Thursday. Here's the silver lining though: you're not the Rockets fan in the video above who was completely curved on the Kiss Cam. One thing to note: the Rockets production team was quick to throw up that "friend zone" graphic, so either this was another staged kiss cam fail, or they could see the writing on the wall from jump. Looking forward to more of these moments next season. In just 10 seconds he went from a potential prospect to getting put in the friend zone for the rest of his life. He, then, looks down between his legs for a second. Although in retrospect, it’s almost as if he was trying to buy more time to have this inner monologue: “Should I go for it? Why is this happening Meanwhile, she’s mouthing, “No,” and shaking her head at the camera. Some places, such as Syracuse University, have even considered doing away with their kiss cams because it makes people so uncomfortable. The kiss cam editing crew then adds a fake road sign which says, “Friend-zone,” with yellow caution tape. (But, also, in their defense, why didn’t he look her in the eyes to see if he could read the situation before going for it?!! She looks up at the camera and sees the “friend zone,” sign. I feel a little bad for him, but the sign is not wrong.” Welp. You can check out the whole thing here: Should the kiss cam even be a thing?
